| Got Gucci? The Cell Phone vs. PDA Debate Will Be Settled By Function ...
One of the most durable debates in the mobile space centers on the differences between cell phones with PDA capabilities, and PDA-type devices that have built-in communications capabilities. More to the point, is it better and more productive to have a PDA with all sorts of built-in wireless technologies, or does it make more sense to use a cell phone that has been bulked up with a email, instant messaging and personal management applications that would seem to eliminate the need to carry a Palm- or Windows-based PDA device? In most cases, personal preferences as to which device is the best fit come down to some very basic criteria: Which device has the longest battery life? Will I be responding to long emails and reviewing documents (in which case, the larger screen of a PDA with wireless capabilities might be the preferred model)? Is the device easily transported and does it have a minimal impact on the lean and clean lines of that Italian suit Ill be wearing (you can refer to this as the wireless Gucci Effect)? My personal opinion is that it really doesnt matter, since most hybrid PDAs which usually sport a number of communications technologies, from Bluetooth to wide area wireless have been redesigned to look more like traditional cell phones and less like boxy PDAs.
Live From Macworld: Slick Podcasting, Tricked-Out Tablet, Awesome ...
Just stick a microphone in your computer, start up a recording program, and put the sound file online. There, now you're a podcaster. However, iTunes makes it easy to find and organize podcasts for listeners and creators alike. This summer, Belkin will release Podcaststudio, a two-channel recording unit with an iPod dock that fits classic and nano models. It features a lot of different input options: combo jacks, 3.5 mm or its built-in set of stereo mics. One possible disadvantage, though, is an odd shape that makes it look like it would be a little awkward to stuff into a pocket, so those looking for a simple and easily portable voice recorder may want to look elsewhere. That same shape, though, makes it look like a good option for meetings or any other sort of desktop use.
Black Francis Plays Impromptu Gig, Police Intervene
Police had to step in and escort Black Francis away from the scene of an impromptu street performance the former Pixies front man was putting on in Dublin, Ireland, NME reported Monday. Francis, alias Frank Black, had attracted the attention of about 1,000 Dubliners who amassed in a park Saturday, where he was performing solo material as well as the stray Pixies number. It seems rather than play encores at his normally scheduled shows, Black has taken to playing what he calls pre-cores in random locations, which he lets his fans choose this according to Indie Corner, which also hosts a digital camera video of Blacks police car trying to navigate through a swarm of Irish Pixies fans, who are slapping the car and hollering, rock and roll! Despite the appearance that Black was being arrested, NME reported that police were only moving him along in an attempt to disburse the crowd.

Telecom, remystified
Quick: Name a consumer offering, besides gasoline, that has been getting more expensive, not less. It's not food or clothing or electronics or anything sold at Wal-Mart. But take a look at your cable TV bill. Odds are high that the channels you subscribe to cost considerably more than five or 10 years ago. In fact, the price of cable has risen by nearly 70 percent over the past 10 years, nearly twice the rate of inflation. .
