| Xacti HD1a HD camcorder adds wide display, more
Sanyo on Thursday introduced the Xacti HD1a, a compact digital media camera that records both still pictures and digital video. It does it all onto an SD flash memory card. The Xacti HD1a is coming in September for $699.99. The Xacti HD1a records video in 720p and grabs 5.1 megapixel still images. Because it uses SD cards instead of bulky tapes or optical media, it's much more compact than other camcorders. It uses a 10x optical zoom lens and 2.2-inch LCD display. New features in the HD1a include a 16:9 widescreen still picture mode, in-camera video editing, a 30 frames-per-second 320 x 240 MPEG-4 pixel video recording mode called “Web-SHQ," optimized for the video iPod. The 16:9 still image mode grabs 3.8 megapixel images in the same wide-screen format as the Xacti HD1's digital videos.

Director: Eminem Almost Leapt Into 'Jumper' Lead Role
As it turns out, the famed white rapper was lined up to play the lead role in the new action film, "Jumper," director Doug Liman revealed to MTVNews.com. "We did have a meeting. We did have conversations with Eminem," the writer/director said about the rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers. Eminem became a surprise box office star in 2002 in the autobiographical "8 Mile." Apparently, after being bitten by the acting bug, he spent some time looking for his next project when the "Jumper" script reportedly caught his eye in early 2006. At that same time, Liman (who just a few months earlier had been tapped to direct "Jumper") entered talks about bringing Eminem on board to star as the teleporting David Rice. "[The idea to meet with the rapper] was sort of coming from the producer and [Eminem's] manager," Liman told MTVNews.com.

Listen to this story on NPR's Day to Day. The Spot: A woman cavorts in her shower while applying Dove Cream Oil moisturizer. (Click here to watch the spot.) This new spot from Dove hits on a couple of current advertising trends. First, it debuted during the Academy Awards telecast—increasingly, the Super Bowl of splashy ads for women. As Ad Age has noted, Oscars ads cost significantly less than Super Bowl ads: $1.7 million compared with $2.6 million for a 30-second spot this year. They reach a more heavily female audience (60 percent of Oscars viewers are women, while that figure drops to less than 50 percent for the football game). And while Super Bowl advertisers face the risk of a massive tune-out if the game grows lopsided, the biggest Oscar presentations are saved for the tail end of the broadcast, so viewers generally stick around.

Today's Report
Atlantic recording artist Shadows Fall has received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance for the song "Redemption" off their critically acclaimed label debut, THREADS OF LIFE. Shadows Fall frontman Brian Fair said the following: "We walked off stage in Milan Italy last night after a killer set on the Black Crusade tour and my phone started buzzing. After cracking a beer I checked my message and was absolutely shocked and amazed to find out that we had been nominated for our second Grammy!!! Redemption has been nominated in the best metal performance category for this year and I could not be more proud. The song is a celebration of the power of music and the human voice as an agent of change and to have it recognized in such a way is incredible. We were able to celebrate last night with our brothers in Machinehead who were also nominated.
